Author's Goals
The author's goal for the United States of WalMart was just to tell us about WalMart. The book was not saying WalMart was an awful store but it wasn't saying how amazing it was at the same time. The United States of WalMart was just telling us the truth. It tells us that since WalMart says they have low prices people just go there instead of checking other places. The truth is not everything in WalMart is at the lowest price you could get it. Also the book tells you about the jobs. How every 1 person out of 115 people work at WalMart. The jobs are not the best though. They don't get paid much at all. Also they have many lawsuits. One of them being because of their jobs. They hired many illiegal immigrants then locked them in the store at night! Shows you how you would be treated. Not so well! It seems like the book is showing everything that's bad about WalMart but that's not what it's doing. It also tells about everything they sell from food to toiletries to appliences. It tells you it's biggest competators and it's biggest is actually Home Depot. When WalMart was first starting it was close to a Sears and put that store out of bussiness. WalMart started in small towns then grew bigger around the United States. Sam Walton, the creator of WalMart, started selling panties and along the way ended up with the store that made him rich,WalMart. The book talked about Sam's journey and said that he was a very well respected boss. He would take the same hours as his workers. Also he would come in during the holidays because his workers didin't have time off so why should he. WalMart has good and bad things about it and now everyone will know. The author's goal was just to tell everyone all the facts and statistics about WalMart.
